Тридцать лет назад Герр потерял обе ноги из-за несчастного случая во время горного восхождения. Сейчас, будучи руководителем группы по биомехатронике в «Медиа Лаб» при Массачусетском технологическом институте (MIT), он показывает невероятные технологии в выступлении, полном одновременно технических и очень личных подробностей; ему поможет исполнительница бальных танцев Адрианна Хаслет-Дэвис: она потеряла левую ногу в теракте во время Бостонского марафона в 2013 г., а теперь, на сцене TED, она впервые будет снова танцевать.

Soon, we’ll all be Knight Rider. You know, the main character on that 80’s TV show of the same name about a crime fighting hero and his talking car. Crazy, you say? Well, we live in a crazy world: a place where the automobile is finally automated and the self-steering steering wheel could be just within our figurative grasp.

We don’t know what the future holds, but we do know that previous generations had high hopes for what lay ahead. If you were to look at World’s Fairs and tech expos of 100, 50 and even 25 years ago, the industries of the past thought we’d be much further along than we are now. Just watch reruns of The Jetsons and you’ll see we’re nowhere near the flying cars and floating cities imagined by the animators of the 1960’s. But that doesn’t mean we haven’t taken technology insanely far in the time since the last industrial revolution. As a new period of massive change is upon us, it’s hard to really notice the huge advances occurring as we speak, from the tall cityscapes developing over our heads to the inner-data-spaces being explored by the phones in our pockets.

Sure, it’s scary. This technology could take away jobs from drivers and give machines more power than some ever thought possible. Even so, it’s interesting to see what’s actually true and what about these technological wonders has been exaggerated. Ведь 4 миллиарда лет назад, поверхность нашей планеты, представляет собой самое настоящее пекло: потоки лавы и магмы внизу, дождь из метеоритов вверху, а солнце – убийственный радиоактивный лазер. И несмотря на то, что вся необходимая для жизни химическая база уже есть, жизнью тут и не пахнет.

2020 Renault Float — Future Revolution Air Car!

In collaboration with one of London’s top art schools, Renault introduces a vision for the new age of autonomous driving

Renault has teamed up with the Central Saint Martins art and design college, part of the University of the Arts London, to design an autonomous car of the future.

15 students entered the competition, three were chosen as semi-finalists, and Yuchen Cai was announced as the winner for her clever design that utilises Maglev technology familiar on Japanese high speed rail transport. Dubbed ‘The Float’, Cai’s design portrays a new form of mobility with the car aiming to get people more engaged with the outside world through the use of autonomous driving technology.

After being named as the winner, Cai spent two weeks in Renault’s design studios in Paris honing her idea and giving ‘The Float’ those final touches prior to its unveiling in London.
From 21 to 24 September, the winning design will be on display in Granary Square, King’s Cross as part of the design junction exhibition.
Electric power, autonomous driving and connected technologies are Renault’s three main focal points for its future fleet. The Renault-UAL collaboration was designed to get student to base their creations around these three themes.
The competition was judged by Anthony Lo, Renault’s Vice-President of Exterior Design and François Leboine, Renault’s Chief Exterior Designer along with Central Saint Martins programme director Nick Rhodes.
