Cars are already driving themselves on the roads of California, Texas, Arizona, Washington, Pennsylvania, Michigan and many more cities. Though, currently they are restricted to specific test areas and driving conditions. But how exactly do they work?
Just like humans they also face issues of traffic congestion, rash driving, potholes, trees and other obstacles on the road. But again…How do they change lane, keep a safe distance from other vehicles passing by and how do they identify roadblocks.
Let’s take a closer look at how they handle such situations smoothly?
You might have noticed a rotating device installed on top of this autonomous vehicle. Sometimes these devices are mounted on the bonnet. This device is called LiDAR. It acts as the eye of self-driving vehicles providing a 360-degree view of its surroundings in order to enable safe driving.
Continuously rotating LiDAR system sends thousands of laser pulses every second. These pulses collide with the various objects around the vehicle and reflect back the signals. These light reflections are then used to create a 3D point cloud. An onboard computer records each laser’s reflection point and translates this rapidly updating point cloud… into an animated 3D representation.

According to Tesla’s newsletter, this is biggest UI revamp since the launch of the Model S, this update comes with various updates, from media player, maps, upgraded autopilot system, and a new function called “Cabin Overheat Protection”.
The “Cabin Overheat Protection” function is designed to prevent heat stroke death of children and pets in vehicles. This new feature will automatically turn on the vehicle’s ventilation and air conditioning system when the temperature rises to 105 degrees fahrenheit, although at this stage, the function will only activate 12 hours after a driver leaves the vehicle.
According to Elon Musk’s twitter updates, the next version of update will include user-definable maximum and minimum temperature function.

They sell prepared foods and grocery staples. There's also a small selection of beer and wine.
You use the Amazon Go app to enter the store.
Here's how the entire process works.
Customers enter the turnstiles by scanning a QR code. Anything you pick up is added to your virtual cart. Any items you put back will automatically be removed from your cart. Once you finished shopping, you can walk right out.
No cashier needed. Your Amazon account will automatically be charged.
But how does Amazon make sure no one steals anything?
Amazon Go uses cameras and high-tech sensors. The combination of cameras and sensors keeps track of where the items are located. However, the technology isn't perfect, as some YouTubers have proven.
Currently, Seattle is Amazon Go's pilot location.
