In what it calls «liberation from gridlock» and the «democratization of flight,» Hyundai once again pointed at Uber as a vital ally in getting its flying cars into the skies. The rideshare platform wants to launch its Uber Air initiative in 2023, and Hyundai looks like it's got the goods to help it do exactly that.

AMD at CES 2020 in 10 minutes

That is, until Microsoft clarified that the images were fake and came from a repository for 3D files. Thankfully, the chipmaker revealed and debuted a lot more things at CES, including a Dell G5 gaming laptop powered by its new «Renoir-H» Ryzen processor. It also launched the Ryzen 4000 chips, which will bring eight cores to ultraportables, as well as the Radeon RX 5600 XT GPU that's designed to deliver 1080p performance between 90 and 120FPS. The company also announced that its 64-core Threadripper 3990X will be available on February 7th for $3,990.

Samsung's 'SelfieType' aims to let you type on an invisible keyboard

Using nothing but your device's selfie camera

In context: When you think of keyboards, your mind is probably instantly drawn to the traditional, QWERTY-based physical devices you see in just about every modern home, business, and office throughout the world. Or perhaps you think of the smartphone and tablet-based digital keyboards many of us interact with daily. Either way, neither of these keyboard form factors are enough for some companies, and it seems Samsung is one of them.

The company today announced that it will be showing off five «innovative» products from its C-Lab start-up incubator. One of the products is «SelfieType,» a piece of software that can use a device's front-facing «selfie» camera — whether it's a laptop, smartphone, or tablet — to create an invisible keyboard for users to take advantage of.

To use SelfieType, you angle your device's front-facing camera toward your hands and begin typing. So long as all of your fingers are visible, SelfieType's «proprietary» AI engine should be able to analyze your finger movements and interpret them as valid key presses.

The software itself seems quite innovative, but in the real world, we wouldn't be surprised if users have a tough time using it. Just about every digital keyboard out there offers haptic feedback when a button is pressed — usually a quick vibration combined with an audible «click.» Further, when operating the average digital keyboard, users can see precisely which key they're pressing at any given moment, and mistakes are easy to fix.

Samsung selfie type invisible AI virtual keyboard demo [CES 2020]

Опубликовано: 7 янв. 2020 г.SelfieType, as the name would suggest, uses the front-facing selfie camera on a smartphone, tablet or laptop to track the movements of your fingers and transfer them into the standard QWERTY keyboard layout that's inside the phone's UI. Now, this does not project a virtual QWERTY keyboard layout onto the surface but it just tracks the movement of your fingers and registers them against the standard keyboard layout using AI.

What's interesting though, is that the SelfieType software doesn't require any additional equipment or a projector to work. It's pretty accurate and consistent too.
A very good alternative to carrying a laptop.

We see a technology like this to be a very good alternative to carrying a laptop or a portable keyboard when you're on the go. All you will carry is just your phone or your tablet and you can use type on it just like you would on a laptop keyboard. The feature will also be very beneficial because the digital QWERTY keyboards on smartphones are very cramped and users with big hands could find it difficult to type on them.
